New cable certifier also acts as Wi-Fi hotspot to send test results via app

Ideal Networks has introduced a new cable certifier that aims to help cuts cost and increase productivity when installing cabling.

According to the cable and network test equipment specialist, the LanTEK III converts “confusing” frequency graphs into easy-to-read plots that clearly show the distance to the fault, allowing for quick repair of the link. It says the device can locate hidden connections, splices and cable faults using TDRL (time domain return loss) and TDX (time domain crosstalk).

The LanTEK III can be used with Ideal’s free AnyWARE app to send test results to a mobile device. The manufacturer says the app enables field technicians to share test data with colleagues without leaving the job site or transporting testers, resulting in greater collaboration, more on-time job completions and reduced costs.

The tester also serves as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and once data is transferred, users can send test results using email or other file sharing app.

The LanTEK III offers a "pick and mix solution”, enabling users to choose a certifier, add adapters, and select fibre modules.

Ideal says PDF reports of the results can be created quickly and easily from multiple testers using its DataCENTER management software installed on just one PC. It says this saves time and simplifies fleet management.

The company adds that AnyWARE is not a cloud service, as the data captured remains in the user’s control at all times, helping to ensure total security.

Featuring a rugged design, the LanTEK III is available in 500MHz (up to Cat6A) and 1000MHz (up to Cat7A) models.

For fibre cabling, the new FiberTEK III modules can be added to the LanTEK III-500 or -1000 models to provide Tier 1 certification, eliminating the need for additional fibre testers.

Ideal claims that the devices’ “industry-leading” battery life provides up to 18 hours of continuous testing without interruption for enhanced productivity.

New Cat6A Permanent Link (PL) adapters are also optionally available to reduce downtime and lower maintenance costs, with field replaceable RJ45 contacts, eliminating the need to replace complete PL adapters.

Ideal says the PL adapters use durable, ultra-flexible cable, allowing the plug to fit into smaller enclosures without risking damage, contributing to longer life.

Existing customers can trade in Cat5 (or higher) cable certifiers for the new LanTEK III-500 or LanTEK III-1000 models.
