SanDisk and Nexenta to deliver first OpenSDS all-flash array

02 September 2015

Nexenta has integrated SanDisk’s all-flash InfiniFlash IF100 system into NexentaStor, its flagship software-only storage platform.

According to the vendors, this all-flash joint solution provides data centre customers with a pre-tested, full-featured, cost-effective, high-performance system.

Capable of scaling from 64TB to 2PB configurations, it’s claimed the unique software and hardware solution supports a broad range of deployment scenarios and workloads including virtualisation, Big Data analytics, data warehousing and dynamic modelling.

Built on ZFS, the combined file system and logical volume manager designed by Sun Microsystems, it’s claimed that the new unified block (FC and iSCSI) and file (NFS and SMB) storage solution provides enterprise customers with peace of mind and the assurance needed around functionality and performance.

Key differentiators of the joint solution are said to include NexentaStor’s inline data reduction and high performance dual parity raid capabilities, as well as InfiniFlash IF100’s extra low space, power and cooling requirements.

Nexenta specialises in open source-driven software-defined storage (OpenSDS). It reckons the combination of its software with SanDisk’s systems delivers the industry’s lowest cost solutions, offering ultra low, consistent, sub-millisecond response times, and more than eight million flash IOPS in a rack.

The firm adds that NexentaStor’s ability to support block and file services allows customers to address use cases such as VMware vCloud Air, OpenStack and CloudStack backend storage, generic NAS file services, home directory storage, etc.
