Vodafone is offering a new consultancy to businesses

Mobile giant Vodafone has introduced a consultancy service to help businesses see the pros of software-defined networking (SDN).

The goal of SDN is to improve network control by enabling enterprises and service providers to respond quickly to changing business requirements. Vodafone also said it can offer a range of benefits for enterprise customers, such as providing a single, real-time view and centralised control of an entire network, helping businesses to identify and control demand and solve issues before they occur.

The new consultancy is offered as part of a package of services which includes an SDN innovation workshop, SDN readiness assessment, demo and the option for a proof-of-concept or wider deployment.

It follows Vodafone’s own research in 2018, which found that over 60 per cent of UK-based businesses said they want help to embrace new digital technologies.

“SDN enables organisations to respond quickly changing business needs adding or removing bandwidth and capabilities according to demand," Vodafone said in a statement. "For example, new sites – such as manufacturing plants or branch offices – can be added to the network almost immediately.

New levels of network automation and control mean SDN typically costs less to manage too. Further, by creating a virtual network environment, SDN can help businesses to manage threats and update security policies more effectively across all sites and devices in real-time."
