Now available in the UK, AmpliFi HD MeshWi-Fi products are claimed to solve problems in connected environments, including dead zones, slow connections and configuration of routers.
The new range is from Ubiquiti Labs, the consumer technology arm of US-based wireless specialist Ubiquiti Networks. It says AmpliFi has been designed as a showpiece: the cube-shaped white router (9.8cm x10cm x 9.9cm) and has a base LED and LCD.
It connects to MeshPoints that can be plugged into anyelectrical socket for Wi-Fi distribution, and pivot on a magnetic ball and socket. Ubiquiti adds that the MeshPoints are the first of their kind that work with any third-party router to create a mesh Wi-Fi system.
AmpliFi HD uses three antennas, 802.11ac, and is said to offer up to 5.45Gbps of aggregate wireless throughput.
Ubiquiti says the system is plug-and-play in 60 seconds through an app that links to a smartphone via BLE. This enables users to manage the network, monitor ISP speeds, invite guests, create profiles, oversee security, and access 24/7, live, in-app support.
