HNS first peering member to connect to Cardiff internet exchange

30 September 2015

Hub Network Services (HNS) has become one of the first members to connect to the IX Cardiff internet exchange following its partnering with LINX Telecom under the LINX Connexions scheme.

IX Cardiff was formally opened in October 2014 and is located in the heart of the city’s Central Enterprise Zone. It is situated near NGD’s data centre in Newport which already connects thousands of service providers and where HNS has an established colocation presence. They will now be offer high speed virtual ports of up to 10Gbps, and HNS says it will bundle all exchange, peering and connectivity fees into a competitive single monthly fee.

HNS says this is a natural extension to the services it offers at NGD, combining the benefits of both IX Cardiff and Europe’s largest data centre from within South Wales. The firm says it also offers expertise to service providers wishing to experience the benefits of peering for the first time.

By offering direct routes between customers in Wales and content, IX Cardiff eliminates the need to send network traffic via London. As a result, regional ISPs are much closer to local users as well as each other, providing benefits in terms of speed, reliability and cost of data transmission.

Bristol-based HNS offers a wide range of data centre, colocation and cloud IT services. The company says it provides round the clock support through its UK-based network operations centre and its redundant, BGP4 routed, MPLS-enabled network.

It adds that interconnects are available with major voice and data carriers such as Virgin Media and BT which are pro-actively managed for assuring high quality of service.
