Gateshead-based IT firm Advantex has won the contract to provide IT and security technology for a new £15m surf complex in Wales.
Surf Snowdonia opened at the beginning of August on the site of a former aluminium factory on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park and the River Conwy. The facility is said to generate the world’s longest man-made surfing waves – up to 2m high – every minute.
The contract, which is worth an undisclosed six-figure sum, will see Advantex install Wi-Fi infrastructure to deliver and support IP telephony, access control and intruder alarm services.
Built around the installation of high performance internet cabling, the infrastructure aims to meet the needs of hundreds of staff and thousands of visitors at a site encompassing shops, cafes and accommodation pods on a plot roughly the size of six football pitches.
Advantex will deploy all the necessary broadband and telecoms infrastructure, and says it has been specifically designed to accommodate future upgrades as the surfing and water sports park gears up to meet the expected increase in future visitor numbers.
Although the brief was for infrastructure and security technology, the firm adds that it will also be providing a project management service as part of an overall package of IT consultancy expertise and after-sales product support.
