Schneider comes up with faster way to build and deploy micro data centres at the network edge

High-strength designs and special packaging enable IT equipment to be pre-installed and shipped directly to customer sites for reduced deployment time.

Schneider claims high-strength designs and special packaging enable IT equipment to be pre-installed and shipped directly to customer sites for reduced deployment time.

Schneider Electric’s Micro Data Centre Xpress line of connected products is now available in the UK.

Unveiled earlier this year, the range is designed to allow IT equipment to be pre-installed by the customer, partner or integrator before shipment.

It features complete data centre physical infrastructure and management software in a single self-contained and secure enclosure.

Schneider claims this makes it faster, easier and more cost effective to build and deploy micro data centres at the network edge and for IoT applications.

Available in 24U, 42U and customisable configurations, the prefabricated systems are tested in Schneider’s factories and can be delivered as full plug-and-play platforms in around 2-3 weeks.

The company says customers can fully populate and test their solution in-house prior to shipping, thus reducing deployment time and risks. It adds that Micro DC Xpress is certified by leading converged and hyperconverged IT vendors.

Utilising StruxureWare for Data Centres, Schneider’s DCIM software suite, and built on the EcoStruxure integrated architecture platform, the system can be integrated into a customer’s larger IT-asset monitoring platform or remotely managed via the cloud.

It also includes physical protection capabilities, including key-card functionality to prevent unauthorised access.

“Edge computing solves real-time data transmission issues by bringing bandwidth-intensive content and latency-sensitive applications close to the users or data sources to ensure reliable connectivity,” says Chris Hanley, SVP of data centre systems, Schneider Electric. “As the market evolves, especially around IoT, we are committed to delivering simplified, cost-effective solutions that enable edge technologies.”
